Breaking: Centre and BJP decline demand to rename ‘Veer Bal Diwas’
Sirsa backs Govt stand as Sri Akal Takht, SGPC, Akalis & AAP seek change

Chandigarh, December 12, 2025: The Central Government and BJP have refused to change the name of ‘Veer Bal Diwas’, rejecting demands from various Sikh bodies and political groups seeking a revision.
BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa defended the Centre’s decision, stating that the existing name appropriately honours the supreme martyrdom of the Sahibzaade.
The development comes days after the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib wrote to all Sikh Members of Parliament urging them to request the Modi government to reconsider the name. The Akal Takht, Shiromani Akali Dal, the SGPC, and the Aam Aadmi Party had all pressed for renaming the observance in line with Sikh sentiments.
Despite continued appeals from Sikh institutions and political parties, the Centre has maintained its stance, signalling no change in the official nomenclature of Veer Bal Diwas.
