Breaking: SAD to boycott Vice Presidential election

Chandigarh, September 8, 2025: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced that it will boycott the Vice Presidential election, alleging that both the Punjab and Central governments have abandoned the people of Punjab during one of the state’s worst-ever flood crises.
SAD further alleged that while Punjab suffers, the nation is moving ahead with the Vice Presidential election, ignoring the plight of flood-hit families. “We represent the voice and pain of Punjabis. Therefore, SAD will not participate in tomorrow’s Vice Presidential poll,” the statement read.
SAD leaders said nearly one-third of Punjab remains submerged, with homes and crops devastated, yet no meaningful relief has come from either the state or the Centre. Calling the floods a “man-made tragedy” caused by the state government’s negligence and incompetence, the party asserted that the crisis is being battled only by the people themselves—particularly rural Sikh youth, who have stepped forward in the spirit of seva and guided by the Guru Sahiban’s teachings.
“The Shiromani Akali Dal bows its head before the commitment and courage of Punjab’s youth,” the party said in a statement, adding that Punjabis are angry and deeply hurt by the apathy of the ruling establishments.
