Congress high command holds crucial Punjab review in Delhi; Leaders share feedback ahead of polls

New Delhi, June 16, 2026:The Congress high command on Tuesday held a series of one-on-one meetings with senior Punjab leaders in New Delhi as part of a major organizational review exercise aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Senior leaders, including former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, MPs Sher Singh Ghubaya, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, and Dharamvira Gandhi, attended the meetings at Indira Bhawan with the committee appointed by the party leadership to assess the political situation in Punjab.
The observer panel is conducting detailed consultations with Punjab Congress leaders and gathering feedback on organizational issues, electoral preparedness, and the current political scenario in the state.
Speaking after the meeting, Congress MP Sher Singh Ghubaya said party leaders had presented their views and shared public feedback with the high command-appointed committee.
“Every member has expressed his views based on his understanding and public opinion. The final decision will be taken by the party high command so that a Congress government can be formed in Punjab,” Ghubaya said.
Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said the committee had invited leaders from across the state and was taking feedback regarding the prevailing political situation in Punjab.
Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa termed the discussions important for the future of the party and said the exchange of views was held in the interest of strengthening Congress. He also claimed that there were indications Assembly elections could be advanced to November or December, making the coming months politically significant.
Congress MP Dharamvira Gandhi said Punjab Congress leaders and party representatives had been invited to discuss the state’s political situation and suggest ways to further strengthen the organization.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said the party had already begun preparations for the elections and was focusing on issues affecting the people of Punjab. She expressed confidence that a united Congress would contest the polls and form the next government in the state.
Congress leader Raj Kumar Verka said nearly 30 Punjab Congress leaders were interacting with the committee. He added that the panel was conducting one-on-one discussions to review the party’s position and understand the ground situation across Punjab.
Party sources said the consultation process is aimed at resolving internal differences, strengthening organizational unity and preparing a comprehensive strategy for the upcoming electoral battle. The observers are expected to submit their report to the Congress high command after completing the meetings.
The exercise is being seen as one of the most significant organizational reviews undertaken by the Congress in Punjab in recent months as the party seeks to consolidate its position ahead of the Assembly elections.
