Fake Indian currency racket busted in Ferozepur; two held with counterfeit notes
Ferozepur, April 11, 2026: Tightening the noose around counterfeit currency networks, Ferozepur Police have busted another fake currency racket, recovering ₹27,500 in fake Indian currency from two accused.
According to police officials, 55 fake notes of ₹500 denomination were recovered from the accused—Manpreet Singh alias Mani, a resident of Khosa Dal Singh, and Tarsem Singh alias Baba of village Jodh Singh Wala in Tarn Taran district. A case has been registered on the complaint of Manoj Kumar, a resident of Zira, under Sections 178 and 179 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation has been entrusted to Investigating Officer Jagjit Singh.
Sharing details, police revealed that the complainant, Manoj Kumar, runs a utensil shop in Zira. The accused reportedly visited his shop to make a purchase and handed over two ₹500 notes. On suspicion, Manoj Kumar examined the currency and found it to be fake, following which he immediately informed the Zira police. Acting swiftly, police apprehended the suspects and, upon search, recovered 55 fake ₹500 notes amounting to ₹27,500.
The latest seizure reflects a continuing trend of fake currency cases in the region. In August 2024, Ferozepur Police had busted a major counterfeit printing unit in Zira, arresting two accused and recovering fake currency worth ₹3.42 lakh along with a high-quality printer. Investigations in that case revealed that the accused had learned printing techniques through online platforms like YouTube and used high-GSM paper and modern printers.
Other incidents in 2024 and earlier years—including recoveries of ₹20,000 and ₹18,500 in fake notes—further point towards a persistent and evolving network, sometimes linked to smuggling and illegal activities.
Police have urged traders and the general public to remain vigilant while accepting cash, especially high-value notes. Citizens are advised to carefully check the security features of currency and report any suspicious transactions immediately.
