Chandigarh, December 21, 2025 In a sustained effort to keep public spaces free from unauthorized occupation and to ensure smooth movement for pedestrians and commuters, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today conducted a special anti-encroachment drive in Sector 15, Sector 41, Sector 22 and MM Sector 13.
The drive specifically targeted illegal vendors, rehri-phari operators and unauthorized cloth vendors who were found occupying footpaths, roadsides and market areas in violation of municipal norms. Enforcement teams removed temporary encroachments from the identified locations, restoring the designated public corridors and market passages.
During the operation, 92 challans were issued to violators for unauthorized vending and encroachment. The action helped decongest busy areas and improved accessibility and safety for the general public.
MC Chandigarh officials reiterated that such drives will continue on a regular basis and warned that unauthorized vending and encroachment will not be tolerated. Vendors were advised to obtain proper registration and operate only in permitted vending zones.
