Peaceful MC polling ends in Ferozepur Distt; Counting on May 29
Ferozepur, May 26, 2026: The Municipal Council elections in Ferozepur district concluded peacefully on Monday amid tight security arrangements and enthusiastic participation by voters. The elections, considered politically important ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls, witnessed 138 candidates contesting across 33 wards.
According to official information, the Bharatiya Janata Party fielded 28 candidates, while the Indian National Congress had 29 candidates in the fray. The Aam Aadmi Party contested with 27 candidates, whereas the Shiromani Akali Dal fielded 19 candidates. The Bahujan Samaj Party had 2 candidates, while 33 Independent candidates also contested the elections.
The voter turnout remained encouraging in all three towns. Ferozepur recorded 57.25 per cent polling, while Zira registered 57.59 per cent voter turnout. Talwandi Bhai recorded the highest polling percentage at 65.44 per cent.
The polling process remained smooth and peaceful throughout the day, with no major untoward incident reported from any polling station. Security personnel remained deployed at sensitive locations to ensure fair and peaceful elections. Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh along with his team continuously monitored the situation and remained on rounds during the voting process.
Deputy Commissioner Deep Shikha Sharma said that teams of officers and employees worked round the clock during the election process to monitor law and order and ensure strict implementation of the election code of conduct, which helped in conducting peaceful polling across the district. She also thanked all the voters of the district for participating enthusiastically in the democratic process. She further informed that the counting of votes polled will take place on May 29, 2026, after which the final results will be declared.
