Punjab Municipal Polls 2026 record 63.94% turnout

Chandigarh, May 27, 2026: The Punjab Municipal General Elections 2026 recorded an overall voter turnout of 63.94%, marking a strong participation of citizens in the democratic process to elect representatives for municipal corporations, municipal councils, and nagar panchayats across the state.
Polling began at 8:00 AM amid tight security arrangements and continued smoothly throughout the day. Voting stations witnessed steady footfall from early morning, with long queues seen at several urban and semi-urban polling booths, indicating active civic participation.
According to the State Election Commission, the polling process remained largely peaceful across all districts, with no major incidents reported during the voting hours.
The Commission expressed gratitude to the voters of Punjab for their enthusiastic participation in strengthening grassroots democracy and local self-governance. It also appreciated the efforts of polling staff, security forces, and district administrations for ensuring the smooth and orderly conduct of the elections.
The counting of votes for the municipal elections is scheduled to be held on May 29, 2026.
