U.S revokes over 6,000 student visas

Washington DC (US), August 20, 2025: The U.S. State Department has revoked more than 6,000 student visas since January 2025 as part of the Trump administration’s intensified immigration enforcement.
According to an official spokesperson, a majority of the cancellations were linked to visa overstays and alleged violations of American law, including cases of assault, driving under the influence, and burglary.
Additionally, between 200 and 300 visas were withdrawn under provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act for suspected ties to terrorism, which prohibits the entry of foreign nationals believed to be involved in or likely to engage in terrorist activities. The move reflects the administration’s broader agenda of tightening immigration rules and reshaping the U.S. higher education landscape.
Student visa holders who are not American citizens but have participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations—such as organizing campus encampments or openly expressing solidarity with Palestine—have come under particular scrutiny.
