Sacramento, October 17, 2026: The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office in California has arrested a man on charges of murdering his missing wife. The burnt remains of the woman were recovered from neighbouring El Dorado County. According to the Sheriff's Office, the victim was identified as Jasmine Gill, who was last seen at her residence in Sacramento on September 30.
After Jasmine's cousin filed a missing person report on October 4, police questioned her husband, Gurinder Gill, as part of the initial investigation. Gurinder allegedly attempted to mislead investigators by claiming that his wife had been detained by agents of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while checking the mail. However, when the Sheriff's Office contacted ICE, the agency categorically denied that any such operation had taken place at the residence.
As the investigation progressed, detectives found several major inconsistencies in Gurinder's statements. The investigation also revealed that Jasmine and Gurinder were involved in a legal dispute over divorce and child custody.
Following an examination of the burnt human remains discovered in El Dorado County on October 1, authorities confirmed that they belonged to Jasmine Gill.
Officials subsequently obtained an arrest warrant against Gurinder on murder charges and took him into custody on October 14. They also searched two residences associated with him.
Gurinder has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and is being held without bail.
