Vigilance Bureau arrests two Canal Dept officials in bribery case
Ferozepur, August 21, 2025: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested a Baildar of the Canal Department red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 for arranging a government job and securing a joining letter for the complainant’s son.
According to the Vigilance Bureau, the accused has been identified as Veer Singh, Baildar, Canal Department, while Jagdev Singh, a Gauge Reader, was also arrested during the operation. The case was registered on the basis of an audio recording submitted by complainant Soni, son of Ram Kumar, a resident of Talwandi Bhai, Ferozepur.
The complainant alleged that Veer Singh had promised to get his son Mohit appointed as a Baildar in the Canal Department and demanded ₹5–6 lakh as a bribe. The accused allegedly received ₹5.50 lakh in cash from the complainant. However, when Mohit did not receive his joining letter, the complainant contacted Veer Singh, who allegedly demanded another ₹50,000 for getting the joining letter issued.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap. During the operation, Veer Singh and Jagdev Singh were allegedly caught red-handed while accepting ₹50,000 from the complainant in the presence of official witnesses.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Vigilance Bureau authorities, while Inspector Rajinder Singh of the Vigilance Bureau Unit, Moga, is conducting further investigation into the case.
