Farmer Protests are democratic way of protest: Cheema
Chandigarh, May 26, 2021: As the Kisan Morcha observes Black Day on Wednesday, senior trade unionist and member AICC M.M Cheema said that hoisting black flags atop the house is a democratic and Gandhian way of lodging the protest in a non-violent way and strong.
Cheema also criticized the lackadaisical approach to PM Narendra Modi-led's government for not being 'farmer friendly'.
"PM Modi's approach towards farmers' protest is just a sheer arrogance of an administrator which has taken voters for a ride," he said.
Cheema said the nationwide protest against these farm laws passed in the both Houses of Parliament in a hush-hush affair tarnished the image of the widely claimed largest functioning democracy in the world.
"Farmers from parts of the country, braving the water cannons, extreme cold, heavy rains, and now extreme summer weather condition amidst Covid19 crises, could not deter the determination of the farming community which is campaigning on borders of Delhi but has exposed the hollow agenda of BJP-led NDA government of being inclusive and seriously trying for doubling the farmer income," the leader added.
He appreciated the move of the All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi to extend full support to the farmer agitation and Rahul Gandhi speaking on every platform against the provisions of farm laws both inside and outside the Parliament.
"As more than 82% of the country's population is dependent on agriculture which is their mainstay and depriving them of remunerative prices rather than openly throwing their future in the hands of large multinational and selective Crony Capitalists is the cause of concern," he added.
Cheema stated that the recent assembly election is the beginning of the end of this authoritarian regime led by Modi which is against the farming community and farmers had proved their mettle in recently concluded assembly elections by posing NDA Alliance and became victorious, wherever BJP came to power in Assembly Elections in last 7 year, it is in full Public Domain that this is done by creating defection in the local regional parties and other anti-democratic steps initiated by NDA to form State Governments at any cost, which has shown their true face to the 134 crore Indians. So are their Anti Farmers Policies greatly motivated and driven by Transnational and Multi-National Corporate houses.
