Railway bolsters safety measures for smooth train operations amid dense fog
Ferozepur, November 27, 2024: In a bid to ensure punctual and safe train operations during the foggy season, Ferozepur Division has introduced multiple safety measures to counter visibility challenges and enhance operational efficiency.
To assist loco pilots, reliable safety tools like fog safety devices have been installed in engines. These devices alert pilots to the status of upcoming signals, enabling controlled train speeds. Additionally, signal location booklets have been distributed to all loco pilots for reference, ensuring accurate navigation even in low visibility.
During restricted visibility, loco pilots are instructed to operate trains at speeds they can safely control, relying on their discretion. Continuous whistling at level crossings warns gatekeepers and road users about approaching trains, further boosting safety.
In addition, supplementary precautions have also been taken like Bright LED-based flasher tail lights are installed at the rear of guard coaches, lime markings on tracks before signals, reflective sigma boards on electric poles, and yellow reflective strips at busy level crossings are in place to aid visibility, An uninterrupted power supply to signaling systems has been ensured to maintain operational consistency and Employee Equipment: Protective clothing, reflective jackets, torchlights have been provided to track maintenance staff for improved safety. Considering the increased risk of track fractures during winter, night patrolling has been initiated across various railway sections. Equipped with GPS-enabled tools, patrolling teams start from both ends of a station pair, meeting mid-way to exchange and sign registers. Any irregularities detected are promptly reported to the concerned authorities for swift action and regular monitoring and inspections to maintain high levels of alertness, daily night inspections are conducted by officers and supervisors during the fog season.
The Ferozepur rail Division remains committed to ensuring safe and secure train operations despite challenging weather conditions. These proactive measures reflect a robust approach to tackling seasonal challenges and maintaining passenger safety.
