The party said that this decision has once again exposed the anti-Punjab attitude of the Center. This decision is an attempt to weaken the authority of Punjab on Chandigarh.
Similarly, Punjab Opposition Leader Partap Singh Bajwa has strongly condemned the Modi government's recent decision to re-appoint Advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator as Chief Secretary, calling it a direct attack on Punjab's legitimate claim over the city.
Bajwa slammed the move, saying it was a deliberate attempt to weaken Punjab's position and marginalise the Punjabi community, which he believed was part of a broader agenda to weaken the state.
Senior Akali leader Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal today warned the Union Government against going ahead with the reported decision to re-designate the post of “Advisor to Punjab Governor-cum-UT Administrator” as “Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh”
Badal was reacting to reports in a section of the press about a notification of the Union Government to this effect. He said that the latest decision comes with the active collusion of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab and its chief minister Bhagwant Mann.
The Akali leader said that the transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab is a settled issue, committed by two Prime Ministers of the country and endorsed by the Union Cabinet as well as by both Houses of the Parliament following the Memorandum of Settlement on Punjab in July 1985.
