Punjab Police Conducts Search Operation at 262 Bus Stands Across State

Chandigarh, March 9, 2025:
In order to ensure peaceful celebrations of the forthcoming Holi festival, as envisioned by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police on Sunday conducted a cordon and search operation (CASO) at 262 bus stands across the state.
The operation was carried out under the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, across all 28 police districts.
Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, who personally monitored this state-level operation, said that all CPs/SSPs were instructed to ensure a heavy deployment of police forces under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (SP) rank officers to guarantee the operation's success.
He explained that police teams, assisted by sniffer dogs, frisked people arriving and departing at bus stands, while also rounding up suspicious individuals for verification. “We had strictly instructed all police personnel to deal with every person in a friendly and polite manner while frisking them during the course of this operation,” he added.
According to Special DGP Shukla, around 400 police parties, involving over 3,000 police personnel, were deployed under the supervision of 121 gazetted rank officers to monitor different bus stands while ensuring minimal inconvenience to the general public.
During the operation, approximately 3,868 people were checked, and police teams detained 175 persons for questioning. Additionally, two criminal cases were registered, and 100 grams of heroin were recovered.
He also noted that police teams conducted vehicle checks at and around the bus stands, resulting in 208 vehicles being challaned and 14 vehicles impounded.
Special DGP Arpit Shukla reiterated that such operations would continue to ensure peace and harmony in the border state.
