‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’: On Day 10, Punjab Police Conducts Raids at 538 Sites; 112 Drug Smugglers Held

Chandigarh, March 10, 2025:
Continuing its relentless war against drugs under the campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate the drug menace from the state, the Punjab Police conducted raids at 538 locations on Monday, arresting 112 drug smugglers and registering 68 First Information Reports (FIRs) across the state. With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended in the past 10 days has risen to 1,436.
The raids led to the recovery of 1.8 kg of heroin, 200 grams of opium, 15 kg of poppy husk, 3,874 intoxicant tablets/pills/injections, and ₹1.2 lakh in drug money from the possession of the arrested smugglers.
The operation was conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav and spanned all 28 police districts of the state.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has tasked the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police with making Punjab a drug-free state within three months. To oversee this mission, the Punjab government has constituted a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
Providing details, Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla stated that over 220 police teams, comprising more than 1,600 personnel and supervised by 103 gazetted officers, conducted raids across the state and checked 610 suspicious persons during the day-long operation.
Special DGP Shukla highlighted that the state government has implemented a three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to eradicate drugs from Punjab. As part of the de-addiction efforts, the police convinced two individuals to undergo rehabilitation treatment. Additionally, 135 awareness events were organized across the state under the prevention strategy.
