Day 11 of ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’: Punjab Police Arrests 110 Drug Smugglers After 580 Raids Across State
Daylong Operation Leads to Registration of 68 FIRs, Recovery of 2.8 Kg Heroin, ₹2.88 Lakh Drug Money
Police Teams Also Conduct Searches at Jails in Five Districts
As Part of Prevention, Punjab Police Also Organizing Events to Spread Awareness About Detrimental Effects of Drugs

With the war against drugs, “Yudh Nashian Virudh,” waged by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate the drug menace from the state, entering its 11th day, Punjab Police conducted raids at 580 locations on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of 110 drug smugglers and the registration of 68 First Information Reports (FIRs) across the state. With this, the total number of drug smugglers arrested has reached 1,540 in just 11 days.
Police teams also recovered 2.8 kg of heroin, 500 grams of opium, 10,904 intoxicant tablets/pills/injections, and ₹2.88 lakh in drug money from the possession of the arrested smugglers.
The operation was conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav simultaneously in all 28 police districts of the state.
Notably, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to make Punjab a drug-free state within the next three months. The Punjab government has also constituted a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, to monitor the war against drugs.
Divulging details, Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla informed that over 220 police teams, comprising more than 1,600 police personnel, under the supervision of 107 gazetted officers, conducted raids across the state and checked 631 suspicious persons during the daylong operation.
The Special DGP stated that the state government has enforced a three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to eradicate drugs from the state. As part of the ‘De-addiction’ initiative, Punjab Police has convinced one person to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, while organizing 146 awareness events across the state as part of the Prevention strategy.
Meanwhile, Punjab Police also carried out search operations at jails in five districts—Fazilka, Ferozepur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot, and Moga—to check for any illegal activities. “Our police teams thoroughly searched every nook and corner, including barracks, kitchens, and toilets in the jail complexes,” said Special DGP Arpit Shukla.
