Speaking during the district-level event organized as part of the "Yudh Nashian Virudh" campaign, the Chief Guest Barinder Kumar Goyal said that the state government waged the war against drugs two months ago and it has begun yielding meaningful results. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government has initiated a coordinated campaign "Yudh Nashian Virudh" against drugs, which includes both action against drug traffickers and provisions for treating those affected by addiction. He said that properties of drug traffickers at more than 60 locations across the state have been demolished, without facing any public opposition, which itself proves that people are now wholeheartedly supporting this campaign.
Citing the example of village Bhulerian of the district where people are living drug-free lives, the Cabinet Minister said that the police have been given a free hand to take strict action against drugs, stressing that to ensure the success of our youth, we must fully commit to this war against drugs through Village Security Committees. The government has also increased the number of beds in de-addiction centers for treating those suffering from addiction, said Barinder Kumar Goyal, while urging the public to report drug traffickers to the police and get treatment for those affected. He asserted that this campaign would not stop until the elimination of drugs from the State. The Cabinet Minister also administered an oath to all attendees to join this campaign against drugs.
Addressing the gathering, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that the government has been working on this front since day one. He called upon Village Security Committees to play their role diligently for the betterment of society, stating that while the Mann government is taking action against drug traffickers, it is also making efforts such as "Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan" to direct the energy of youth in the right direction. He said that the government has provided around 56,000 government jobs to youth so far.
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that drugs pose a great threat to youth and therefore collective efforts are needed. Addiction is a disease that is treatable and the treatment is completely free in government hospitals, said Dr. Baljit Kaur, calling for transforming this campaign into a people's movement.
Earlier, Special Guest and Chief Whip MLA Prof. Baljinder Kaur said that no drug trafficker would be spared during this battle against drugs. She lamented that previous governments did not stop drugs but instead provided patronage to drug traffickers, which led to this disease spreading extensively throughout society. But, the Mann government would completely eradicate this disease, she added.
Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Kaplish informed that the number of beds in de-addiction centers in the district has been increased from 90 to 190. He also invited people to participate enthusiastically in the de-addiction journey. SSP Akhil Chaudhary provided detailed information about the actions being taken by the district police against drug traffickers.
MLA Sri Muktsar Sahib Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar, MLA Giddarbaha Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon and District President Jashan Brar were also present on this occasion.
