"Intermittent Sounds of Blasts": Omar Abdullah reports explosions amid Jammu blackout

Chandigarh, May 9, 2025: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reported hearing "intermittent sounds of blasts, probably heavy artillery," as a complete blackout enveloped Jammu city on Friday evening.
The city was plunged into darkness, accompanied by blaring sirens, amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

In a series of posts on social media platform X, Abdullah confirmed the blackout and the presence of sirens across the city.He appealed to residents to remain indoors, avoid spreading rumors, and stay calm during this period of heightened tension.
The blackout in Jammu marks the second consecutive night of enforced darkness in the region. Similar measures have been reported in other areas, including Srinagar, where mosque loudspeakers advised residents to switch off lights as a precautionary step.
These developments come amid ongoing cross-border shelling and drone activity.
