Kanchan Kumari Murder: Two accused sent to 14-day judicial custody

Bathinda (Punjab), June 18, 2025: In a major development in the murder case of popular social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, two arrested accused—Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjeet Singh—have been sent to 14-day judicial custody by the Bathinda court.
The duo was produced in court today after the end of their second police remand. While Bathinda Police had hoped to seek further remand for interrogation, the court rejected the request and ordered that they be sent to jail.
According to police, the prime accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, fled abroad shortly after the murder. Authorities have initiated proceedings to bring him back to India, and efforts are underway for his extradition.
Sources indicate that steps are being taken through official channels to ensure his return at the earliest.
The body of Kanchan Kumari, who had gained a significant following on social media under the alias Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, was discovered a few days ago inside a parked car at Adesh Hospital in Bathinda. Jaspreet Singh (a resident of Mahiron, Moga district) and Nimratjeet Singh (from Harike Pattan, Tarn Taran district) were arrested in connection with the murder.
Police claim that three people, including Amritpal Singh Mahiron, were involved in the killing.After the murder, Amritpal released a video on social media accepting responsibility and issuing a warning to those posting obscene or controversial content online.
During the court hearing, Amritpal Singh's father and a few of his supporters attempted to speak with the accused but were prevented by police from approaching them.
Bathinda Police have pledged to take strict action against all those involved in the murder. Investigations are ongoing to track down and arrest other suspects in the case.
Officials emphasized that they are committed to eliminating hate and violence emerging from social media platforms and will continue to act decisively.
