Ludhiana (Punjab), June 19, 2025 — Voter turnout in the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election stood at 33.42% till 1 PM, as per official figures. Despite all preparations in place, the polling pace remained sluggish due to intense heat, which kept many voters away from the booths during the early hours.
A total of 14 candidates are contesting in this crucial bypoll, including nominees from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). All major candidates had cast their votes by the afternoon.
The Ludhiana West seat, which has 1,75,469 registered voters and 194 polling stations, fell vacant following the demise of former MLA Gurpreet Gogi.
Prominent candidates in the fray include AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, Congress’ former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, SAD-backed lawyer Advocate Parupkar Singh Ghumman, and BJP’s Jeevan Gupta.
Polling will continue until 6 PM, and counting of votes will be held on June 23.
