Viral assault case cracked swiftly, prime accused held, DIG urges parents to shield youth from drug menace
Ferozepur, June 27, 2025: The Ferozepur police arrested, within a few hours, a hardcore prime accused in the assault on a youth whose video has gone viral on social media by using the IT information developed through Information Technology (IT). Today, Harmanbir Singh Gill, DIG Ferozepur Range, along with Bhupinder Singh, SSP Ferozepur, briefed the media regarding a viral video showing a young man being assaulted in village Nawan Purba.
The incident, which came to light on June 24, involves Vishal, son of Vijay Kumar, a resident of Nawan Purba, who a group of individuals brutally attacked. The assailants allegedly suspected him of tipping off the police about their involvement in drug trafficking.
An FIR (No. 87 dated 25.06.2025) has been registered at Police Station Kulgarhi under Sections 126(2), 115(2), 191(3), and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 67 of the IT Act, 2000.
The accused have been identified as Simarjit Singh alias Honey (son of Ajit Singh), Mani (son of Pappu) — both from Nawan Purba; Vishal (son of Sham Lal) from Gajjan Singh Colony, Alle Wala; Tony (son of Roshan Lal) from Chungi No. 08, Ferozepur Nawan Purba; and Karan (son of Krishan Kumar) from Rukna Mugla.
During the brief, DIG Gill said, during a police raid to arrest Simarjit Singh alias Honey, he attempted to escape by jumping off the roof of his house, resulting in a fractured ankle. He has been hospitalised and is under treatment. Simarjit is already facing seven cases under the NDPS Act and other charges in Talwandi Bhai, Mohali, Ferozepur, and Kulgarhi. Raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.
DIG appealing to the parents said, they should motivate and counsel their children and get them out of the clutches of this drug, otherwise we will take more and stricter action against them, and the same will be such that their future generations will also remember it.
He also appealed to parents to remain emotionally and practically involved in their children’s lives, stating that no parent wants to see their child fall into the trap of drug abuse. He emphasised that vigilant and engaged parenting is key to preventing youth from being drawn into crime and addiction.
DIG Gill emphasised that strict action will be taken against anti-social elements and drug traffickers, and those who resort to such criminal acts will not be spared. The police are fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of the public.
