After Ayodhya, Now Sitamarhi’s Turn: Amit Shah lays foundation stone for Rs 882-crore Mata Sita Temple project

Sitamarhi (Bihar), August 8, 2025: After the grand construction of the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya, preparations are now underway for an equally magnificent shrine dedicated to Mata Sita in Bihar’s Sitamarhi.
In a historic ceremony today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, laid the foundation stone for the Mata Janaki Temple at the sacred Punaura Dham.
The project aims to transform Mata Sita’s birthplace into a world-class religious and tourism hub, modelled on the development of Ayodhya.The government envisions it as a major attraction not only for Indian devotees but also for visitors from around the globe.
The sprawling temple complex will be built at a cost of over ₹882 crore. Punaura Dham is widely believed to be the birthplace of Mata Sita, adding immense spiritual significance to the site.
Once completed, the project is expected to place Sitamarhi’s Punaura Dham prominently on the global map as a major Hindu pilgrimage destination.
