BJP's Ashwani Sharma on Land Pooling Policy: Mann Govt rolled back policy fearing court, not farmers

Chandigarh, August 12, 2025 – Punjab BJP working state president Ashwani Sharma has alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government withdrew its controversial land pooling policy not out of concern for farmers but due to fear of the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s stay order.
Speaking to the media after inducting new members into the party, Sharma said the state government’s intention to acquire farmers’ land remains unchanged.
“They have only rolled back the policy announced on May 14, 2025, but not their plan to take land. I am certain they will attempt to acquire it through other means,” he claimed.
Sharma noted that the High Court upheld the same objections the BJP had raised, leading to the policy’s suspension.
He further criticised the government for reversing the decision through an officer’s order instead of a cabinet announcement, suggesting this leaves room for reintroducing land acquisition in another form.
He demanded that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann publicly commit to not acquiring “thousands of acres” of farmers’ land under any circumstances in the future.
