Chandigarh, August 21, 2025 – BJP executive president Ashwani Sharma accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of suppressing camps organized by the BJP to promote central government welfare schemes, calling it evidence of the government’s dictatorial approach.
Ashwani Sharma, after meeting Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria in Chandigarh, spoke to reporters outside Raj Bhavan, criticizing the AAP government for blocking camps that help deliver Modi government’s welfare schemes aimed at the poor, unemployed, farmers, Dalits, women, and youth in Punjab.
He said that the AAP government has failed to implement these schemes effectively in the state, and while the BJP is legally facilitating the people’s access to these schemes, the Mann government is obstructing BJP workers and arresting them.
Sharma emphasized that the BJP camps, which register people for central government schemes like Ayushman cards, farmer benefits, and housing, are being forcefully stalled to prevent Punjab residents from availing these benefits. He said that the Mann government’s behavior is hindering public access to welfare programs related to health, agriculture, and women’s support.
In protest against this heavy-handedness, Ashwani Sharma led a BJP delegation including Kewal Singh Dhillon, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, Dr. Subhash Sharma, Anil Sareen, Rakesh Rathore, Jagmohan Singh Raju, Parminder Singh Brar, NK Verma, and Vineet Joshi to meet Governor Kataria and submit a memorandum.
Sharma accused the Mann government of using authoritarian tactics to deprive people of central benefits such as health cards, scholarships, and farmer assistance. He declared that such a government is not a true government but a “killer of people’s dreams.”
Warning sternly, Sharma said the BJP will go to any lengths to protect people's rights. If the Mann government does not stop its coercive actions, Punjab will witness a huge movement, and the government will shake under people’s wrath. Sharma added that the Governor assured a serious discussion on the BJP’s concerns raised during the meeting.
