Punjab: SSP issues statement on arrest of BJP leaders, read what he said?

Abohar (Punjab) August 22, 2025 – A major political controversy erupted in Balluana constituency today after police stopped several BJP leaders from entering Raipuria village. Allegations surfaced that these leaders were planning to set up a camp to collect people’s personal data illegally. Following the action, Fazilka SSP Gurmeet Singh has released an official statement.
In his statement, the SSP clarified that the action was necessary to maintain law and order and to protect citizens’ personal data. He emphasized that the government has issued strict directions to enforce the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, under which collecting personal data without consent is a serious offence.
The SSP further informed that a high-level committee has been constituted to investigate the matter.

- What will it do: The committee will also probe the complaint that led to the police action.
SSP’s stern warning
Concluding his statement, SSP Gurmeet Singh issued a firm warning that no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands and peace will be maintained at all costs.
