Bhakra dam releases 75,000 cusecs of water; 21 villages in Patiala ordered to evacuate

Chandigarh, September 3, 2025: After heavy inflows in the Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej rivers, the Bhakra Dam is now also overflowing. The water level in the reservoir has crossed 78,000 cusecs, dangerously close to its total storage capacity of 80,000 cusecs.
In response, authorities have begun releasing 75,000 cusecs of water from the dam. The Patiala administration has sounded an alert for flood risk in low-lying areas and issued evacuation orders for 21 villages.
Officials have urged residents to move to safer locations without delay. Relief and rescue teams have been deployed to assist with evacuations and provide support.
