Former Punjab IAS officer assumes charge as Member GSTAT, New Delhi

New Delhi, September 8, 2025: The Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) is the specialized appellate authority established under the GST law in the year 2017 to provide an independent and efficient forum for resolving disputes arising from orders passed by the GST Appellate Authority or the Revisional Authority.
The GSTAT consists of a Principal Bench and multiple State Benches, with both Judicial and Technical Members, to balance legal and domain expertise in its functioning. Its role is crucial in reducing litigation burden in higher courts and in fostering certainty and trust in the GST regime.
Shri A Venu Prasad, former Special Chief Secretary to Govt. of Punjab was appointed as Technical Member, Principal Bench, GSTAT by the Department of Revenue, Govt. of India. He worked as Financial Commissioner (Taxation) and Excise and Taxation Commissioner in Punjab State for a period of 8 Years.
He retired from Punjab cadre as Special Chief Secretary to Government of Punjab in the year 2023. Later worked as Member, NRI commission, Punjab and continued till the time of joining as Technical Member in GSTAT.
Dr. Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, Justice(Retd.), President, Principal Bench, GSTAT administered the oath of office to Shri A Venu Prasad, Technical Member.
