UK MP Dhesi’s family provides direct financial aid to 498 flood-hit families
Ferozepur, October 2, 2025: Continuing relief efforts for those severely impacted by recent floods in Punjab, family members of UK Parliamentarian Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, along with associates, reached out directly to flood-hit families in border villages of Ferozepur.
This season, heavy rains in the upper hills, coupled with the opening of dam gates, led to flooding in several border villages of Ferozepur. Both the government and NGOs have come forward to provide relief and rehabilitation support to the affected families.
For over a month, families in Talli Gulam, Baggowala Basti Ratoke, and Nihala Lavera have been struggling due to flood devastation. A delegation including Jaspal Singh Dhesi, Paramjit Singh Raipur, Sahib Singh Dhesi, Bhupinder Singh, Nishanjeet Singh (UK), and Sukhdev Singh (Phagwara) provided direct monetary assistance to 338 families across the affected villages.
The team first visited Government School Dhera Ghara, where they donated six computers and financial aid for a new school shed. They also extended help to the family of Granthi Singh in Sultanwala village. Special contributions were made to the management committee of Gurdwara Baba Jeevan Singh at Nihala Lavera.
In addition, two physically challenged youths from Dhera Ghara and Talli Gulam were gifted electric wheelchairs by Sikhs for Equality Foundation, Phagwara. Financial assistance was also provided to widows, the sick, and differently-abled women in the villages.
SGPC member Paramjit Singh Raipur informed that MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi’s family, along with other supporters from the UK and Canada, has been actively engaged in relief work since the floods began, supporting organizations as well as extending personal aid. Earlier, in the first phase, monetary assistance had been provided to 160 families. With today’s initiative, the total number of families receiving direct financial aid has now reached 498.
