Tarn Taran (Punjab), September 12, 2025: In a landmark verdict that has sent shockwaves through Punjab politics, Additional Sessions Court, Tarn Taran, on Friday sentenced AAP MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura to four years in prison for harassment and assault of Harbinder Kaur, a resident of Usman village.
The case dates back to March 4, 2013, and is widely known as the ‘Usman Case’. Harbinder Kaur, along with her family, was en route to a wedding when Lalpurra, then a taxi driver, allegedly harassed her. When the family resisted, Lalpurra, with the assistance of police present at the scene, allegedly assaulted them on the road.
A video of the attack went viral on social media, drawing national attention. The Supreme Court later took suo motu cognizance and directed protection for the victim’s family.
After a 12-year-long legal battle, the court delivered the verdict, marking a significant moment in the fight against abuse and political impunity in Punjab.
