Chandigarh, September 26, 2025: In a landmark move aimed at enhancing the welfare of its personnel, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has approved major reforms in the DG’s Merit Scholarship Scheme, extending its benefits to all wards of CISF personnel excelling in academics and sports. For the academic year 2024–25, a total of 567 students have benefitted under the new norms. All wards securing more than 80 percent marks in Class 12 are now eligible for the scholarship.
Inclusive Reforms to Recognize Excellence
Deputy Inspector General, CISF, Sh. Ajay Dahiya, said the previous restriction of awarding scholarships to only 150 wards per year has been removed. “Now, all meritorious students are equally rewarded, eliminating exclusion and motivating them to aim higher,” he added.
For the first time, meritorious sports achievers among CISF wards have also been recognised, with five students awarded scholarships this year. Additionally, the scheme has been extended to the wards of CISF personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, with significantly enhanced scholarship amounts. This year, eight such students received awards.
Digitalised Application Process for Transparency and Accessibility
To ensure wider accessibility, the entire application and approval process has been digitised. The online system facilitates easy and efficient applications, particularly for wards living in distant locations. Applications are processed in a time-bound manner, with scholarship amounts credited directly to beneficiaries’ accounts.
Financial Outlay and Scholarship Amounts
For the academic year 2024–25, a total of Rs. 1.26 crore has been disbursed under the scheme. The scholarship norms are:
- 80–90 percent marks: Rs. 20,000 per student
- Above 90 percent marks: Rs. 25,000 per student
This welfare-driven reform has boosted the morale of CISF personnel, reinforcing trust and assurance between the organisation and its members. It reflects CISF’s guiding principle: “Welfare Above All.”
