Breaking: Granthi shot dead in Punjab

Chohla Sahib/Tarn Taran, October 22, 2025: A former army personnel allegedly shot and killed his cousin in Nathupur village, under the jurisdiction of Chohla Sahib police station in Tarn Taran district, on Wednesday morning. The victim, Ranjit Singh Rana (38), served as a Granthi at Gurdwara Isharser Nanaksar Harike Patan.
According to police reports, a dispute had been ongoing between the accused, ex-serviceman Harpal Singh Pala, son of Balkar Singh of Nathupur, and Ranjit Singh Rana, over personal matters. The houses of the two men are located very close to each other.
The incident occurred when Ranjit Singh stepped out of his house in the morning. Harpal Singh allegedly fired at him with a rifle, causing fatal injuries. The victim was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Ranjit Singh is survived by his wife and one son.
Upon receiving information, SHO Baljinder Singh and the police team immediately reached the spot, recorded the incident details, and launched an investigation. Police have confirmed that a search operation is underway to apprehend Harpal Singh, and he is expected to be taken into custody soon.
