Punjab announces major push for women’s safety with 5 new Working Women's hostels

Chandigarh, November 19, 2025: Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is undertaking major steps to support the welfare and empowerment of women by expanding safe and accessible accommodation facilities for working women.
Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that the Punjab Government is constructing five new Working Women Hostels at a total cost of ₹150 crore. These hostels will be established in Mohali, Amritsar, and Jalandhar, with three in Mohali and one each in Amritsar and Jalandhar.
Calling the project a significant move toward women’s safety and independence, the Minister said that the upcoming hostels will benefit thousands of working women by offering safe, affordable, and modern residential options.
She added that the facilities will include strong security arrangements along with essential and contemporary amenities to ensure a comfortable and supportive living environment.
Dr. Baljit Kaur also highlighted that the Punjab Government is actively implementing several other schemes focused on women’s empowerment through education, employment opportunities, and increased social participation.
She directed officials to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of the hostel construction so that the facilities can be made available to women at the earliest.
