Former MLA Awla’s family creates history in Guruharsahai with mass wedding of 216 underprivileged girls
Ferozepur, November 19, 2025: In a remarkable act of social service, former MLA Ravindra Awla and his family organized the mass wedding of 216 underprivileged girls, setting a historic example of community welfare. The Awla family personally bore all expenses to ensure that every wedding was conducted with dignity and proper religious rituals.
The event was held following the week-long Shri Vishnu Maha Yagya, conducted from November 12 to 18 near Chandan Palace on Faridkot Road. After the Yagya concluded, a grand “Maha-Kumbh of Mass Weddings” was organized on Wednesday under the leadership of the Aavla family.
To bless the newly married couples, Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham attended the ceremony as a special guest. Hundreds of people, including families of the brides and grooms, gathered to witness the occasion. Comprehensive arrangements—including seating, hospitality, and a variety of food—were made by the Awla family. Each newlywed couple also received essential household items as gifts to support the beginning of their married life.
“I promised these families, and today my soul finds peace after fulfilling it,” said former MLA Ravindra Awla while addressing the gathering. He recalled how, during the floods, several affected families shared their struggles, saying that items collected for their daughters’ weddings had been washed away. Moved by their pain, the Awla family pledged to take full responsibility for the marriages of the affected girls.
Awla emphasized that his family has always stood with the needy and will continue to do so in the future. “Whatever we are today is because of people’s blessings,” he added.
Speaking at the event, Dhirendra Krishna Shastri praised the Awla family’s initiative and paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus by honouring Sikh traditions. He said it was his privilege to come to the land of the Gurus and bless the daughters. Shastri encouraged people to visit gurdwaras, offer prayers, and remember the heroic sacrifices of the Gurus, especially on the 350th martyrdom anniversary.
