Breaking: School holidays extended in Punjab

Chandigarh, January 7, 2026:In view of the continuously intensifying cold wave and dense fog across Punjab, the state government has extended school holidays to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.
Education Minister Harjot Bains said that, as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, holidays will be observed in all government, aided, recognised and private schools across the state till January 13.
He added that considering the prevailing weather conditions, the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect children and school staff from the adverse effects of extreme cold.
All schools in Punjab will now reopen and function as usual from January 14, the Education Minister informed.
