Chandigarh, February 2, 2026:A delegation of the National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi, currently on a socio-political study tour of Punjab, on Monday called on Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who highlighted the state’s unparalleled contribution to national unity, sovereignty, food security and communal harmony.
Interacting with the delegation during their visit to Punjab from February 2 to 6, the Chief Minister said Punjab has consistently produced distinguished military leaders and brave soldiers who have made supreme sacrifices in the service of the nation.
He described the state as the “Sword Arm and Food Bowl of India,” noting the crucial role played by its youth in guarding borders and its farmers in sustaining the country’s food reserves.
Welcoming the delegation to the state, CM Mann said the study tour would provide participants an opportunity to gain insights into Punjab’s social, economic, political, cultural and religious fabric. He said Punjab is the sacred land of Gurus, saints, martyrs and reformers, known for its brave, hardworking and peace-loving people.
The Chief Minister said Punjab contributes nearly 40 percent of the food grains to the national pool and has a historic record of the highest sacrifices during India’s freedom struggle. Despite being a border state with a 532-kilometre international frontier, Punjab has remained a shining example of secularism, mutual respect and communal harmony, he added.
CM Mann said the state has never been divided on sectarian lines and has repeatedly demonstrated unity during times of national crisis. Highlighting Amritsar as a symbol of inclusive coexistence, he said the holy city is home to revered sites such as Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Mandir, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal and Jallianwala Bagh.
Providing details about the delegation, the Chief Minister said it comprises 16 officers, including five foreign officers from Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia and Nepal, along with 11 Indian officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, AFHQCS and Department of Land Resources. The delegation includes officers at the rank of Brigadier or Secretary level, as well as civil officers from services such as IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS, Coast Guard and DRDO.
He said the NDC course focuses on strategic orientation, economic security, science and technology, global and regional security issues, and governance challenges from the state to village level. On the occasion, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann felicitated the members of the delegation and wished them a comfortable and enriching stay in Punjab.
