Canada Barrister Lovleen Gill tell PU students: Common law key to global legal careers

Chandigarh, February 6, 2026:Urging law students to think beyond national boundaries, international barrister and solicitor Lovleen Singh Gill advised aspiring legal professionals to develop a strong understanding of common law systems and explore international accreditation pathways to build successful global legal careers.
Gill was delivering a lecture on “Common Law: A Vista to the World” at the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, where he shared practical insights drawn from his experience as an international lawyer based in Surrey.
Addressing the students, Gill explained how common law forms the backbone of legal systems in several countries and how Indian law graduates can leverage this knowledge to pursue opportunities abroad. He guided students on career planning, professional mobility and the importance of aligning academic learning with global legal requirements.
The lecture was highly interactive, with students actively participating in discussions on international legal practice, cross-border opportunities and research-oriented legal careers.
Gill was felicitated by Prof Shruti Bedi, Head, UILS, who praised his achievements as an international legal professional and acknowledged his continued contribution to the Career Development Cell of UILS. She highlighted that such sessions help students gain clarity, direction and global exposure.
During his address, Gill also congratulated Prof Bedi for her leadership and lauded the recent approval of PhD programmes at UILS, describing it as a significant step forward for the institute.
The session concluded with an open discussion, leaving students motivated to explore global legal pathways with a clearer sense of purpose.
