CEO Punjab interacts with PU Mass Communication Studies on media and electoral awareness

Chandigarh, February 6, 2026: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, Anindita Mitra, on Thursday held an informative and interactive session with 34 Mass Communication students of Panjab University, focusing on voter awareness, electoral participation and contemporary communication practices.
The interaction provided a platform for open dialogue, with students actively sharing ideas on how modern communication tools, digital platforms and outreach strategies can be effectively utilised to enhance public awareness about elections, particularly among youth and first-time voters. Discussions also highlighted the evolving role of media in reaching diverse sections of society.
Addressing the students, Ms Anindita Mitra underlined the critical role of mass media in a democratic framework, emphasising its responsibility in disseminating accurate information, shaping public opinion and enabling citizens to make informed electoral choices. She noted that students of mass communication, as future media professionals, would play a key role in promoting ethical journalism and responsible communication, especially during the electoral process.
The Chief Electoral Officer encouraged students to apply their academic learning and creative skills to foster informed public engagement and uphold the values of fairness, transparency and credibility in media practices.
Students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to interact directly with the CEO, Punjab, describing the session as insightful and motivating. The interaction reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement between electoral authorities and academic institutions in sensitising youth towards civic responsibilities and democratic processes.
