Giani Raghbir Singh calls for ‘Sarbat Khalsa’, Urges Panthic unity against alleged irregularities in SGPC

Amritsar (Punjab), February 18, 2026: Giani Raghbir Singh has issued a strong appeal to Sikh organisations, sects and Panthic groups to unite and convene a Sarbat Khalsa, describing it as the need of the hour amid growing concerns over the functioning of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
Addressing the Sikh community, the Jathedar called upon all Panthic factions and religious bodies to rise above differences and come together on a common platform.
He alleged that corruption, maryada violations and administrative decline within the SGPC have reached a point where decisive, collective action at the community level has become essential.
Giani Raghbir Singh stated that in the present circumstances, Sikh institutions must be freed from what he described as the grip of select interests. He maintained that critical Panthic issues — including concerns over missing sacred saroops and alleged irregularities within the institution — can only be resolved through collective deliberation.
Emphasising the historical and spiritual significance of the Sarbat Khalsa, he termed it the highest collective forum capable of restoring the sanctity, independence and credibility of Sikh institutions.
The Jathedar also appealed to Damdami Taksal, Nihang Singh organisations, Nirmala and Udasi sects, farmers’ unions and Sikh bodies in India and abroad to set aside personal or ideological differences in the larger interest of the Panth.
Following the announcement, political and religious circles have witnessed heightened activity. While sections of opposition Panthic groups and youth organisations have welcomed the call, unease is reportedly being observed within the SGPC and the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).
