Chandigarh, May 2, 2026: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday directed officials to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water across the state, stressing that all water resources must be optimally utilised during the summer season.
Chairing a review meeting at the Civil Secretariat with officials from the Public Health, Irrigation and other departments, the Chief Minister said ponds, waterworks and reservoirs should be kept filled, and contingency measures must be in place to avoid shortages in both rural and urban areas.
He instructed that tube wells be repaired on priority if they become non-functional and directed authorities to arrange water tankers wherever necessary. He also announced that a बैठक with the Ministry of Jal Shakti would be held soon to discuss key projects, including the Kishau project, with participation from neighbouring states.
Officials informed that the water level in the Bhakra Dam is currently 36 feet higher than usual, with Haryana utilising around 75–76 per cent of its allocated share. The state’s network of waterworks—covering both single and multiple villages—was reported to have adequate water availability.
The Chief Minister also reviewed canal cleaning and repair works, directing departments to expedite pending projects. He emphasised timely completion of development works, including street lighting and village peripheral roads, and called for plantation drives ahead of the monsoon season with inputs from village sarpanches.
Senior officials, including Principal Secretary Arun Gupta and Additional Chief Secretaries from key departments, were present during the meeting.
