Chandigarh, May 22, 2026: In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections in Punjab, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed a public interest litigation seeking conduct of the polls through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
With the court rejecting the plea, it is now officially clear that the civic body elections in Punjab will be conducted using the traditional ballot paper system.
The decision settles the uncertainty surrounding the mode of voting for the MC elections, which had become a subject of political and legal debate in recent days.
As per the announced schedule, polling for the Municipal Corporation elections will take place on May 26, while counting of votes and declaration of results will be held on May 29.
