Chandigarh, May 27, 2026: Punjab Cabinet Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) State President Aman Arora on Wednesday launched a strong attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing its leaders of attempting to derail the municipal corporation elections in Punjab through intimidation and unlawful conduct.
Addressing a press conference, Aman Arora alleged that BJP leaders behaved as if they were “above the Constitution and law” and tried to turn the civic polls into what he described as a display of “goondagardi”. He further claimed that the election process was disturbed by repeated instances of pressure tactics and misuse of influence by BJP representatives.
Arora specifically targeted Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, accusing him of insulting Punjab Police personnel during the polling process. He said the entire state had witnessed such behaviour and strongly condemned it, alleging that it was an attempt to create fear and influence voters.
He also alleged that BJP leaders violated election norms by remaining present in restricted areas after the end of campaigning, and accused them of breaching Election Commission guidelines. According to Arora, when police attempted to enforce the rules, BJP leaders resisted action and attempted to obstruct official duties.
The AAP leader further stated that Punjab Police officials, despite acting with restraint, were subjected to misbehaviour and derogatory remarks, including comments directed at a senior woman police officer. He said such conduct was unacceptable and an insult to the uniformed forces.
Defending the Punjab Police, Arora said the force had made significant sacrifices in maintaining peace and security in the state, particularly during difficult historical periods, and that any attempt to undermine their dignity would not be tolerated.
He also raised questions over Ravneet Singh Bittu’s past political actions, alleging that he had earlier used influence to secure a DSP position for a family member during the previous Congress government, despite eligibility concerns.
Aman Arora concluded by asserting that the AAP government and the people of Punjab stand firmly with democratic institutions and law enforcement agencies, and will oppose any attempt to disturb the democratic process or undermine the authority of the law.
