Nine killed, 15 Injured in tragic collision near Ferozepur while en route to Beas
Ferozepur, June 6, 2026: In a heart-wrenching road accident, at least nine people lost their lives and around 15 others sustained injuries when a pickup vehicle carrying devotees collided head-on with a trailer truck on the Ferozepur–Fazilka road.
According to police, the victims, all residents of Railway Colony in Jalalabad, were travelling to Beas to immerse the ashes of a deceased family member when the accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. near Janga Wala village, about 18 kilometres from Ferozepur.
The pickup vehicle was carrying 28 passengers, including women and children. The impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the vehicle was completely mangled, trapping several occupants inside the wreckage. Nine persons died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are undergoing treatment.
Local residents and passersby immediately joined rescue efforts and helped evacuate the victims before emergency services arrived at the scene.
Police sources said the truck driver fled after the accident and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh, who visited the accident site, described the incident as extremely unfortunate. “A serious accident has claimed nine lives and left many others injured. Our teams are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision, and appropriate legal action will be taken,” he said.
The SSP noted that such tragic incidents leave entire families devastated and struggling for their future survival. He appealed to motorists to drive responsibly, maintain safe distances, avoid reckless overtaking, and exercise patience while driving to prevent road accidents.
The tragedy has cast a shadow of grief over Jalalabad and surrounding areas, with families mourning the sudden loss of their loved ones.
