Barnala Leads Punjab in Census 2027, Phase-I Houselisting and Housing Census

Barnala, June 7, 2026- Barnala district and Municipal Corporation Barnala have secured the top position in Punjab by successfully completing the Houselisting Operations (HLO), the first phase of Census 2027, within the prescribed timeline.
Congratulating the entire census team on this significant achievement, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer, Barnala and additional charge Municipal Commissioner-cum- PCO, Barnala MCorp, Harpreet Singh IAS, said that the accomplishment reflects the collective dedication and tireless efforts of the census staff.
Sharing details, the Deputy Commissioner informed that Barnala district and Municipal Corporation Barnala have achieved 100 percent completion of Houselisting Blocks (HLBs) under the Phase-I (HLO) of Census 2027. As per the latest report issued by the Directorate of Census Operations, Punjab, Barnala has secured the leading position among all districts and municipal corporations in the state.
He stated that the exercise covered 172 Houselisting Blocks in Municipal Corporation Barnala and 800 Houselisting Blocks across Barnala district. For efficient execution and monitoring, the district was divided into seven charges, namely the tehsils of Barnala, Tapa and Mehal Kalan, Nagar Panchayat Handiaya, and the municipal council areas of Dhanaula, Tapa and Bhadaur. Charge Officers closely supervised the operations to ensure timely completion and maintain data quality.
More than 1200 enumerators, supported by a team of supervisors, were deployed for the exercise. To encourage excellence and maintain high morale, the district administration also recognized and honoured well-performing enumerators and supervisors at regular intervals during the campaign.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted that Barnala had earlier become the first district in Punjab to initiate Houselisting Operations in all its Houselisting Blocks. Additionally, Nagar Panchayat Handiaya achieved distinction by becoming first charge in the state to complete the houselisting process.
Notably, the first phase of Census 2027—Housing and Houselisting Operations—commenced on May 15, 2026 and is scheduled to continue across Punjab till June 13, 2026.
