New Delhi, August 16, 2026: Congress leader and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has made it clear that he would seek only one party ticket — from Dera Baba Nanak — while taking a sharp dig at those seeking nominations through what he described as “bootlicking”.
In a post on X on Sunday, Randhawa recalled that when he was first given a party ticket, his father was serving as the party president but stepped away from active politics on the same day.
“When I got the ticket, my father was the party president, and he decided to step away from active politics on the same day,” Randhawa said.
He further asserted that he would accept only one ticket and that too from Dera Baba Nanak. “If we have to take a ticket, we will take only one; otherwise, none. And the ticket will be only from Dera Baba Nanak,” he said.
Taking aim at the party’s ticket distribution process, Randhawa said nominations should go to candidates capable of winning elections rather than those who engage in sycophancy.
“Tickets should be given to those who can win, not to those who indulge in bootlicking,” he said.
Randhawa’s remarks come amid discussions within political parties over candidate selection and electoral preparedness ahead of upcoming elections. His comments also underline his preference for retaining Dera Baba Nanak as his electoral base.
