Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University organises lecture on protected vegetable cultivation

Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab): The Department of Agriculture at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, organised a special lecture on “Protected Cultivation of Vegetables” for its students.
The lecture was delivered by Dr Kulbir Singh, retired professor, Department of Vegetable Science, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, who shared his expertise on modern vegetable cultivation practices.
Dr Kulbir Singh explained the importance of protected cultivation, including the use of greenhouses and other protected structures. He discussed the selection of suitable vegetable crops, nursery management, irrigation and nutrient management, as well as measures for controlling insect pests and diseases.
He said protected cultivation can help minimise the impact of adverse climatic conditions and enable the production of high-quality vegetables throughout the year. He also highlighted the potential of the sector for commercial farming, self-employment and agricultural entrepreneurship.
Students participated actively in the lecture and interacted with the expert, raising questions related to protected vegetable cultivation. The discussion helped them connect their classroom learning with practical knowledge and modern agricultural practices.
Prof. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, appreciated the Department of Agriculture for organising the lecture.
Dr Jaspreet Kaur Dhillon, Head of the Department of Agriculture, thanked Dr Kulbir Singh for sharing his knowledge and experience and encouraged students to adopt modern agricultural technologies.
Faculty members and undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department of Agriculture attended the lecture and participated enthusiastically in the interactive session.
