Fierce fire breaks out in Ferozepur Cantonment, Heavy loss feared
Ferozepur, August 20, 2026: A fierce fire broke out at Guru Nanak Electronics near Neem Wala Chowk in Ferozepur Cantonment on Thursday morning, causing extensive damage to electronic goods and triggering panic among shopkeepers and residents in the busy market area. No loss of life has been reported so far.
According to preliminary information, the fire reportedly started on the second floor and rapidly spread to the third floor of the building. The flames intensified within a short time, prompting an immediate firefighting operation. Three to four fire tenders from Ferozepur city and Cantonment reached the spot, while additional resources were also kept on standby.
The incident, however, raised questions over the functioning of the Cantonment Board fire service. According to information available at the spot, the pressure motor of a Cantonment Board fire tender reportedly failed to start for some time after the vehicle reached the site, allegedly delaying the initial firefighting operation. The claim has not been officially confirmed by the authorities.
The City Fire Brigade subsequently joined the operation. Firefighters from both services worked for a considerable time to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining shops. Local shopkeepers also extended assistance, helping firefighters and removing electronic goods and other material from the affected showroom to safer locations.
Shopkeeper Sanjeev Sachdeva reportedly noticed smoke emerging from the upper floor while he was present at the showroom. On checking, he found the area engulfed in flames and immediately alerted nearby shopkeepers and informed the fire services.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be established, though a short circuit is being suspected. A large quantity of packing material and waste from a cycle dealership operating on the ground and first floors had reportedly been dumped on the upper portion of the building, which may have contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.
A substantial quantity of electronic goods is feared to have been damaged or destroyed, with the loss expected to run into lakhs of rupees. The exact financial loss will be assessed after the fire is completely extinguished and the premises are inspected. Police and fire officials are monitoring the situation.
