Breaking: MP Dharamvir Gandhi faces police complaint over alleged remarks on Hindu Gods, religious practice

Ludhiana (Punjab), August 26, 2026: A written complaint has been submitted to the Ludhiana Police Commissioner against Patiala Congress MP Dr Dharamvir Gandhi, alleging that certain remarks made on his Facebook account hurt the religious sentiments of people following the Hindu faith.
The complaint was submitted by Varun Mehta, a representative of Sanatan Sewa Samiti Punjab. It concerns alleged objectionable remarks on Hinduism, religious pilgrimages and Hindu deities on the social media platform.
According to the complainant, Dr Gandhi allegedly made posts and comments on his Facebook account concerning Hinduism, religious pilgrimages and references to Lord Shiva and Lord Ram that were considered derogatory and objectionable.
The complainant alleged that the remarks had deeply hurt the religious sentiments of people who follow the Hindu/Sanatan faith and could potentially create tension and discord in society. Screenshots of the Facebook posts and comments cited in the complaint have also been submitted to the police as supporting material.
The complaint seeks appropriate action against the Congress MP under applicable law. Police action, if any, will depend on the examination of the complaint and the material submitted with it.
