Chandigarh, September 15, 2026: The Punjab Congress on Tuesday staged a major protest in Chandigarh against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the Gulzar Singh suicide case, demanding the resignation of Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
The protest was led by Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot and attended by former Chief Minister and MP Charanjit Singh Channi, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla and a large number of party leaders and workers.
Congress leaders questioned Cheema’s alleged role in the Gulzar Singh case and accused the AAP government of failing to ensure a fair and impartial probe. Pilot alleged that the government was not taking appropriate action in the matter and said the Congress would continue to raise the issue on behalf of the people of Punjab.
Speaking at the protest, Channi and Bajwa also expressed confidence that the Congress would defeat the AAP government in the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. Channi said Congress leaders were now united and would continue to fight against the state government.
After the protest, Congress leaders and workers marched towards the residence of Harpal Singh Cheema and raised slogans against the AAP government, intensifying their demand for accountability in the case.
