Amit Shah asked Punjabis for one chance to end drugs by 2029, says Sunil Jakhar

Jalandhar (Punjab), September 30, 2026: Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar, speaking at the concluding ceremony of the BJP’s Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra in Jalandhar, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had sought public support on a single issue — making Punjab drug-free.
Recalling Shah’s address, Jakhar said the Union Home Minister had told people that issues such as corruption, law and order, unemployment and farmers’ concerns would remain unresolved unless Punjab first tackled the drug menace.
According to Jakhar, Shah had appealed to Punjabis to give the BJP an opportunity to eradicate drugs from the state, with a target of December 31, 2029.
Jakhar said Shah had also cited the Centre’s actions against terrorism and Naxalism under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership while expressing confidence that the drug menace in Punjab could similarly be tackled.
The former Punjab BJP chief said the response from people at the Jalandhar event reflected strong public participation in the party’s anti-drug campaign.
The BJP’s Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra culminated in Jalandhar after four simultaneous yatras travelled through all 117 Assembly constituencies over 13 days. Amit Shah, addressing the concluding rally, said the BJP would make a drug-free Punjab its central electoral issue for the 2027 Assembly elections.
