Ludhiana (Punajb), October 20, 2026: Padma Shri Rajinder Gupta, Chairman of Trident Group and BJP Rajya Sabha MP, on Tuesday expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for visiting Punjab and focusing attention on the state’s drug crisis, expressing confidence that the visit would give fresh impetus to efforts to eradicate the drug menace and protect the younger generation.
Gupta was among the prominent BJP leaders who received Shah at Amritsar airport earlier in the day. He later shared the stage with the Home Minister during a press conference in Ludhiana, following Shah’s meetings with families affected by the drug crisis.
Gupta expressed confidence that Shah’s intervention would strengthen efforts to tackle drug trafficking and ensure accountability for those involved in the illegal trade. He also emphasised the importance of sustained action to protect Punjab’s youth from drugs and secure a better future for the state.
The MP had earlier welcomed Shah’s commitment to making Punjab drug-free by 2029 during a meeting with the Home Minister in New Delhi on October 16. He had assured his support for the initiative and pledged to contribute to the BJP’s mission of building a drug-free Punjab.
During Tuesday’s visit, Shah met the families of Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, Gulzar Singh in Sangrur and Bikramjit Singh in Gurdaspur. Addressing the media in Ludhiana, the Home Minister questioned the alleged political patronage behind the drug trade and promised action against those found responsible, irrespective of their influence.
Gupta’s participation in the visit reflects his support for the BJP’s stated goal of making Punjab drug-free by 2029.
